@emarde We're talking about food here, and about how people usually like to cook food together and then share the cost of the ingredients. I also mentioned how trading food is also common, such as "give me a bit of cheese and I'll give you a bit of soda in return."

And if there's some candy or bisquits left on the tables, it's for any0ne to eat. A handy way to get rid of extra food.

Miitissä tarvittavan ruuan määrän oikea arviointi kaupassa onkin sitten ihan oma tieteenlajinsa, joka on vuosien kokemuksesta huolimatta monelle aina yhtä hankalaa :D

Thanks @Vampirelady and @Pagba! I appreciate your english translations, it eliminated a few questions I had accumulated. So, onto a couple of generic questions (since I've never been) and specific travel questions:

1. Should I bring a sleepingbag/pillow?
2. Is there any type of clothing I will need for activities (outdoor hikes and such), or do we mostly hang out in the cabin? A swimsuit for winter-swimming?
3. If someone has an English version of LOTR, can you bring it? If we have discussions or talks about the book, I'd love to be able to follow along and actually b e able to read the text =]
4. What time do we normally leave the cottage on Sunday (so I can plan my homeward bound trip)?
**** TWO MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
5. Is anyone traveling from Turku that I could ride with? If not can someone confirm that they could pick me up from Lahti so I can buy a bus ticket? I would arrive there at 1545 and am happy to wait if you would not be there right away.
6. Is anyone traveling back to (or near to) Turku on Sunday? If not, can someone provide me a ride to the the most convenient bus station?

@emarde
1: The cabin has bunkbeds. You will be needing a pillowcase, a duvet cover/quilt cover, and a bedsheet. Or you can just sleep inside a sleepinbag, its' your choice.
2: The cabin is a pretty private place so people usually just swim naked. (The sauna will also be heated on both Friday and Saturday-evenings. Or whenever people feel like going to the sauna). Basic warm outdoor clothes will be fine. People usually like to walk to the nearby church ruin during Saturday.
3: I don't have the English version on LOTR, but I can assure you nobody will murder you for not having it. And besides, our English skills are amazing, right guys?
4: Depends on the people you are riding home with. Some leave earlier, some later. Usually people leave around 12-14 or so.

Minun autoni lähtee klo 15.30 Helsingistä (meinasin että pääsen lähtemään aiemmin töistä mutta turha toivo) joten olemme perillä kauppareissu huomioon ottaen jonkin verran viiden jälkeen.

Ok kiitos vastauksista!

Oohlalaa!! Sääli että buukkasin jo lauantain lämpimän ruoan :D

@emarde

Me and douv are coming from Kouvola and we drive Lahti through. Do you want come with us? You can come to our car from Lahti's railway station to Hämeenkoski.

If you're coming with us, we're planning food shopping at Lahti's Prisma.

On sunday my drive is leaving about 10am and I can take you back to Lahti.

Sorry about my bad English.

@emarde don't worry about the naked swimming part. Finnish fish hardly ever bite any hanging anatomical bits. During these smaller moots it's usual to bathe in mixed groups, but single sex groups and/or private bathing can also be arranged. You may wear a swimming suit or a towel without getting criticized or laughed at. It's a personal choice, after all.

@Henane Yes!! I would love that. Thank you very very much for replying. I will take you up on both rides and will do a bit of light shopping at Prisma, but I already bought some stuff so it won't be too much.
@Pagba I'm used to being naked, so I'm not concerned about it, but thank you for making me feel comfortable in the case that I may have been =].

I think I read that some people are going to make some 'hobbit food'. I love cooking and would be happy to buy some stuff to make a portion of a LOTR feast (or at the least, I can contribute money). We could set up a menu and each make something. I'm a supernerd when it comes to combining multiple interests of mine and so...I did some research and found some guides for LotR food feasts and recipes if anyone is interested:

Yes, Ulmo mentioned dried mushrooms he/she could bring.

Some of those recipes that emarde shared feel a bit extravagant. I enjoy eating as much as any other Shireling, but I want to also talk and play and sit in the sauna and hang around and not cook all the time. And recipes seem to focus more on the sweet and less on the savoury dishes. But what I am trying to say is that I have no menu planned yet and I would happily participate in making a stew of some kind. Or basically anything with mushrooms and/or bacon.

Samma på finska: Ulmo, sienet kiinnostaa aina. Lisään ainakin pekonin ja ehkä kermankin ostoslistalleni, katsoisin mielelläni mitä niistä saisi kehiteltyä. :)

@emarde I'll send you my phonenumber..

Onko pikkujoulupaketit taas muotia? Ja minkä hintaisia ne oli? Onko pipareita?? :D

Lauantai-iltana paikalle on yleensä ilmestynyt jonkinlainen Joulupukkiotus.

And the same in English: @emarde I think I mentioned before that it is possible to be a part of this "gift swapping"-thingy (or should I call it a "Secret Santa?")

Anyway, you can buy a gift (it doesn't have to be expensive, the cost of the gift is usually around 5 euros or so), and in return you will get a gift from someone too. The gifts will be given to people by the one and only, Santa Claus, sometime on Saturday-evening. Also we will be making gingerbread thingies and there will be Nordic glögg (aka something quite similar to mulled wine). These the Tolkien Society will provide, free of charge.

Yes yes yes @emarde , I would love to cook some "hobbit food"! But I think douv is right, it would be nice to do other things too, and not just cook all the time. Maybe we could choose some recipes which aren't so time-consuming? I would love to have scones and jam in the morning, and maybe some honey cakes :)

A stew with meat, mushrooms, bacon and root vegetables could be nice ( and maybe some red wine ).

I'm sorry to disappoint you Ulmo, but the official moots of Finnish Tolkien Society are non-alcoholic for various reason.
