-"Imaginations from the Other Side" contains references to The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, The Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, The Sword in the Stone, Chronicles of Narnia and the Corum novels. It talks about a person who has lost his dreams. He becomes a prisoner of his own reality and, when he realizes it, he fights to get them back. It forms a thematic arc with "Bright Eyes" and "And the Story Ends".

-"Nightfall in Middle-Earth" - The album is based upon J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion, a book of tales from the First Age of Middle-earth, recounting the War of the Jewels. The album contains not only songs but also spoken parts narrating parts of the story.
-"Harvest of Sorrow" is based on Tolkien's tragic story of Túrin Turambar, which appears in the Silmarillion.
